 And I LIKE those 'better' hold down screws (takes the hex tool)!

Did you check the timing with a timing light? I found that my system is firing "retarded" or left of the timing mark on the base plate. While the engine was running, and with a timing light, I marked with an indelible marker (very carefully) on the base plate where the ignition was firing. See pic:

From this tick mark I adjusted my timing, ignoring the manufacturers mark. If I used the timing mark from the manufacturer, the timing would be very retarded. I know because I spent a lot of time trying to get my bike to run over 5 grand like you using the stock timing mark. Not sure why they put the timing mark there. I also found that I had to advance the timing to get it to run right. The best setting I found for my S2 was 3.5mm BTDC. Now she really screams. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I will try this.

Although I did try a timing light, and it seemed to jump too much. It may be the "cheap" advance light I have can't handle the wasted spark; it danced all around when I tried it. What timing light did you use?

Also, Powerdynamo did get back to me very rapidly, but there was an email issue... For some reason I could not send them emails via my work email, and their emails to my @gmail account had the same issues. Anyway, they report this is common with the triples, they suggested going a main jet size up, or raise the needle in most cases. I haven't had time to try this yet.

Not sure what type of timing light I have. I've had it for years. Did you try flipping the HT timing light clamp on the spark plug cable? Per Powedynamo site:

For strobing the engine you set up the stroboscope (power supply and HT clamp) and start the engine. The strobe will flash rapidly. If it does not flash, turn the clamp by 180 degrees (that is side directed before towards spark plug shall now be directed towards ignition coil).

I tried what they told you about raising the needle and changing the jets. You will have to do this, but not before you straighten out the timing. I raised and lowered the needle and tried all sizes of main jets to try to raise the rpms. I was just wasting my time until I figured out it was a timing problem.

Hey guys,
It's starting to look like Iowa is an anti-Powerdynamo vortex, or just for the triples as it works just fine on my RD400.
My H1E will run great up to 6500 rpm and then feels like it hits a rev limiter. I got an email from Edgar at PD customer
service with this link. http://www.powerdynamo.biz/eng/kb/triples.htm
It shows some of these systems were sent out with misplaced timing marks so I just took my rotor off to see if I had one
of those units. Looks like mine is marked correctly. The black mark to the left is TDC, the other black mark a tiny bit to the
left of the unit's red timing mark is where my timing light is showing spark at .136" or 25° BTDC. The scale is lined up with
crank and pick-up screw per Edgar's link, and looks like the 13° called out for the correct timing mark location.
Everything looks right to me, so I'm wondering if this could be a coil problem, as in at 6000 rpm speed they are not
getting enough dwell time to produce the required spark. Have any of you tried different coils with this system? What coils
would you recommend? Also, I didn't see if you guys were running a battery. Running without one is what I'm doing on both
my RD and H1 an wonder if that could be a problem with the triples. Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated.

Regards, Don in Cedar Falls

Do you have a capacitor in place of the battery?

No, I'm not using a capacitor on either bike.

I don't know if you have the stock stator on or not, but you have to run a capacitor or battery or it will screw up the stock system. Not sure about this one though.

Hey Don,
I have the system and realized mine hits a wall at 6,500rpms as well. Tonight I will strobe the ignition through the rev range to check, but I am thinking that it retards too much and needs advance. The strobe light will show for sure.

The system doesn't need a battery at all, only if you want to have the ignition switch actually stop the engine (the battery switches a relay).
