I used Heim joints, female thread, both right hand, lock nuts, and a threaded aluminum rod stock length to make all of mine. 1/4 inch ball hole, 1/4 inch rod stock, threaded the rod stock only as far down to hide the threads, and make the rod as long as it needed to be.

McMaster-Carr, and other good industrial stores have the Heim jounts, other parts from there, or, local hardware store.

my shift linkage is sloppy as heck. i am looking to possibly do a spherical rod end / heim joint mod. i noticed one posting about this. any of you folks got a visual aid? perhaps a quick parts list?
any wisdom?

to upshift i have to touch my toes to my shin! ha ha.

thanks in advance

If you send me all the shift linkage, I can resize the holes back to round and make pins to fit. That way you can retain the stock look.

Wow! That would be a great service to start offering as alot of us have at least a Triple or two with worn, sloppy linkage.

I could make and install brass/bronze sleeves and use factory size pins or open up the worn parts and mave oversize pins.

I'm going to search to see what available for bushing/sleeve material.
(edit--found suitable material )

For the shifter, I use a small caged needle bearing. The linkage, female thread Heims, solid aluminum rod threaded only as long as needed, to keep it clean looking. For the through bolts, button head stainless bolts and stainless lock nuts for the rear of the levers.

Nice linkage above, mine is just a different variation, eons old.

I might have the best shifting H2 anywhere...but no credit to me. The linkage was done by my neighbour who also built my awesome hydraulic clutch release.

that is a very nice offer, but i am going to give this project a go personally. the visual aid and the fact that you guys agree that the linkage needs to be addressed is enough for me to at least give it a whirl.

thanks again.
