I talked to Sacramento DMV last week and asked what the status was of my RGV250 title. Was told the stack of paperwork was sent to the right
building but the wrong office. :wtf: So then the lady pulled up my info on the system and said she didn't know if it would title or not. Was told they
might request a letter from Suzuki stating the this grey market bike met the 1990 Ca noise and emission standards. I then brought up the fact that
they had told me in the two phone calls I made before I bought the bike that because it's 25 years old those requirements don't apply.

So since I'm getting older and really don't like to lose I just played a second card  Just bought this frame on ebay with a 17 digit vin :e11
If they don't want to title my 11 digit frame than this one is is going through Vermont. From what I can find, Suzuki made some 17 digit vin
VJ22's for some countries.

Good luck Ron. I hope one of these routes works for you...and sooner than later.

Well my tired RGV250 lasted all day last Saturday. I don't think there would have been 10 miles left in the motor. Today I pulled the motor
out and took off the cylinders. Bottom cylinder looks good, top cylinder and piston not so much. One of the power valves was hitting the piston
and I'm really surprised the the motor ran as good as it did. Top cylinder had a bad rattle, yes I can see why. My temp registration expired
last Sunday so that's why I waited to pull it apart. Will do a complete restoration on the bike now but only after my 72 H2 is finished.

Was great to get one group ride out of this thing with the boys up north while I could still legally ride it.

I got that same song and dance when I went to register my 1985 RZ500 in California. They initially registered it, then called and said they were sending law enforcement to confiscate both the title and BIKe, to cancel the title, and...CRUSH THE BIKE. all, of course, at MY cost to the system. I contacted legal help, and was told they cannot confiscate the bike and crush it, jsut impound if it is ridden on any public road/hwy. Title, yes, they could take that.

So, I trundled off to the Whittier DMV one day, Cal title in hand, after forcing them to return the original Canadian title. We met, and with documents in each right hand, we exchanged paperwork into each left hand, and, I beat feet outta there. Comes a few years later, and now, I live in rural Nevada, no SMOG inspections, no bull, no hassles, no DMV lines. All I had to do was produce the original Canadian title, and a $16.00 cost document of origin from Canada, took 5 days, pay the fees, and it has been a Nevada child ever since, 11 years now. It's out in the garage, I rode it yesterday.

Same with my California sold KZ1300 six. California said it has to have a 17 digit VIN to be legally registered. Frame is original, 16 digits from the factory. I called Lincoln, and found out that one of the places for the 17 digits IS a digit, although it ISN'T a 'digit', IT IS A DASH. Letter from Kawasaki fixed it. It has been a much happier camper here in Nevada, as well, these many years.

My shop sits next to my house, and has a separate street address. One would be very surprised to find just how many people live there, and, have their California 'unregisterable' vehicles registered to that Northern Nevada address (lots of my California pals). Hey, it's their "vacation residence" address. Some have actually waited a year or two, then registered their previously unregisterable vehicles back in California, no problems.

My last phone calls to the compliance office they asked me to put up a bond. Also they wanted a letter from Suzuki stating the bike met Ca and the
the 49 state standards for 1990. Suzuki wrote back that they don't know if it met the standards of the 49 state or Ca. since it was never sold here.
I called Compliance back and asked what are the standards it has to meet and where can I get the bike tested. They don't know what the standards
are and they don't test motorcycles, great :wtf:

So I brought up the fact that they told me on two different phone calls from the start before I bought the bike that it could be titled because of being
25 years old. They lady then told me to call C.A R.B. and at the same time that since it's 25 years old it only has to me the 49 state standards.
Well if it only has to meet the 49 state standards why would I have to call C.A.R.B. ? I did call C.A.R.B. and they told me it has to be 1978 or older.

I'm going to call again tomorrow and see if I can just post a bond(will cost $125 a year for $5000) and go with the 49 state standards. The EPA website
states after 21 years old they don't care and the NHTSA doesn't care after it's 25 years old. I called several importers and they all told me the same
thing, 25 years old, no problem.

If this doesn't work I'll go the Vermont route with the current frame. If that doesn't work I'll use my 17 digit frame from Australia. I don't want to try the
17 digit frame with Ca because it has a non-conforming vin and also states it's a 1/98. They titled frames there on the year they where imported to the country.

Ah...the California Air Resources Board, what a diabolically demented group to be tortured by. They are the stewards of the California Clean Air Act, and the primary reason the air there is totally not breathable. The only state agency worse than they are i6s Cal-EPA.

So I called the Compliance office last week and now they tell me they lost my file with all my paperwork. You gotta love the DMV here :wtf:
Good thing I made copies, not that I would every think they would screw up.

It would appear that ALL DMV workers are inter related to each other, from inbreeding, as they are all named either Mr. Boon Doggle, or Ms. Where DitGo, Mrs. O. B. Struct. I still have some vehicles registered in Ca., they are on non-op, just to confuse the Ca. DMV mutants.

Good luck with it, hope it gets worked out positively, in your favor.

Went the Vermont route and got the plate today. Won't do any good for allowing me to ride the bike legally here in Ca. I've decided to just fix it
up and sell in on ebay to someone in a state that these can be legally titled in. The longer I live here in Ca. the more I hate this place :banghead

Now you know why I am so happy to have literally 'escaped' some 12 full years ago from the gulag of The Democratik Dictatorship del Kalifornia de Norte Mexico, to the Free State of Nevada. Only problem here is Prince Harry Reid, but, "Pinky" (yes, that IS his nickname, has been for 7 plus decades) is leaving in 2016 (THANK THE STARS AND HEAVEN), and although he is deluded in thinking he will still run things from the background and shadows, he will be very upset that he will literally be laughed at, and forced to sit down and shut up.

I just re-registered my RZ500, here at the DMV in Yerington, walked right in, sat down in the waiting chairs, for a tech, was told "Hi, Dave, come on up and sit at my desk, waddya need?". 3 minutes later, done deal, finished, tags, renew reg done, Dave's GONE for another year. That was the longest time I have ever had to wait for a tech at our DMV, outrageous waste of time.

Why won't Kalifornia recognize the Vermont title and reg? I think I just read even with the Vermont title, they won't register the bike there?? WHY?
