My last phone calls to the compliance office they asked me to put up a bond. Also they wanted a letter from Suzuki stating the bike met Ca and the
the 49 state standards for 1990. Suzuki wrote back that they don't know if it met the standards of the 49 state or Ca. since it was never sold here.
I called Compliance back and asked what are the standards it has to meet and where can I get the bike tested. They don't know what the standards
are and they don't test motorcycles, great
So I brought up the fact that they told me on two different phone calls from the start before I bought the bike that it could be titled because of being
25 years old. They lady then told me to call C.A R.B. and at the same time that since it's 25 years old it only has to me the 49 state standards.
Well if it only has to meet the 49 state standards why would I have to call C.A.R.B. ? I did call C.A.R.B. and they told me it has to be 1978 or older.
I'm going to call again tomorrow and see if I can just post a bond(will cost $125 a year for $5000) and go with the 49 state standards. The EPA website
states after 21 years old they don't care and the NHTSA doesn't care after it's 25 years old. I called several importers and they all told me the same
thing, 25 years old, no problem.
If this doesn't work I'll go the Vermont route with the current frame. If that doesn't work I'll use my 17 digit frame from Australia. I don't want to try the
17 digit frame with Ca because it has a non-conforming vin and also states it's a 1/98. They titled frames there on the year they where imported to the country.
