When I was about 8 years old I got a Aurora slot car set for Christmas. That same year my Grandfather got a model train set. He worked for
the Boston and Maine railroad and had just retired (1966). I remember my Grandfather and my uncle had a ball with my slot car set and he returned
the train set for the biggest Aurora Thunderjet slot car set they made at the time. I have decided I would like to find a set like he had and have been
searching on ebay the last few weeks. Just like the old 2-stroke bikes, slot cars have become quite collect-able. Anyone here have slot cars when they
where a kid?

Mine were/are Eldon. The whole family and lots of friends had a blast with that set. Today it would never get any use, since everyone has his face buried in smart phones and Faceplant and Twizzler.

My grandfather died in 1969 and I ended up with his set too. We lived in a large house so I had a room just for my slot car and train set. Spent lots
of cold winter days building landscapes and buildings for my set. Brings back lots of good memory's and probably why I ended up working on cars for a
living.

Oh yes, spent many a hour as a kid with my Aurora sets. Got one for my son years ago when he would come to visit, and did it all over again.

The right gauge made a nice layout with HO trains too.
I had Eldon and Aurora sets.
Also used to hit the slot car track near my home when I was a youngster.
One had 4 huge tracks and you took your cars, "pit kit" and controlers to the store and rented track time.
It was a lot of fun, figuring which tires held best, setting up suspension etc.

Brings back great memories, I was obsessed, used to walk to local tracks with my case, car and cox controller. About 14 years old used to spend Saturday nights taking windings off my armatures

There was a slot car business in my town that had three huge tracks to race on.
I could ride my bicycle to the place. I spent a lot of time there.

Do the still make a decent HO gauge track for home use?
We had a really nice track when I was growing up.
Plus 1 for a Cox thumbstick controller and car!

There are only two types of motor sport racing:
Nitro and everything else
(Sometimes referred to as fast and slow)

Not me cause I think they'ren't sold in Europe but have done slot racing and had also a big Carrera track 2 lanes 1/24 in my parents' contry house

My brother and I were into slot cars in a big way during the 70's. We had all the Strombecker stuff... No idea how that stuff stacks up today but as I remember, it was pricy stuff back then!
