Tis the season for deer. I avoided one last night, but overcorrected and hit a curbed median 8 inches tall. I am uninjured. The 2001 Subaru Outback Assault Wagon is considerably worse for wear. $700 so far in parts ordered today. The strut took most of the impact. The lower control arm is bent, but attach points on the uni body appear to be unaffected. Left front wheel and tire destroyed, left rear wheel bent. Ordered a strut, a lower control ar, a ball joint and 2 new Michelin Defenders. I have a line on 2 used wheels at $50 each from the local junkyard. I was 60 miles from home. I jacked it up,saw nothing running out of it anywhere and put the donut spare on which barely cleared the fender well. then I limped it home at 45 MPH....I was very lucky....

Glad your ok Tim. Sucks about the car though.

I know someone that died swerving to avoid a deer... Lost control and went into oncoming traffic on a 65mph highway with no jersey barrier. 130mph+ closing speed head on collision.

I NEVER swerve...ever. I grit my teeth, slow down as much as the situation will allow and SLAM RIGHT SMACK INTO THE worthless pieces of crap. That goes for any freaking critter that decides to jump in front of me.
Took a while, but I taught my wife to do the same. We have A LOT of deer around here as well.

It's actually the main reason I hate riding motorcycles at night. I'd rather be surround by a bunch of drunk texters on the freeway then out here in the country with a horned rat hiding behind each and every tree just waiting to ambush me......

Glad to hear you are OK

I call them Forest Rats
One ran into ME awhile back as I was going 10 MPH.
I say kill em all and make Bambi #1.

An insurance report a few weeks ago stated you have a 1 in 7 chance of hitting a deer in Arkansas. 40 years ago there were very few deer here but they sure have made a come back. I'm glad your OK Tim.

Thanks to all for the kind words. I will be taking the Assault Wagon to the shop after I check the Baby Mommas and get it off the lift. The wheels will be here late today or tomorrow. The repair can be done without them. I am figuring somewhere in the $1200 range for this debacle by the time it is all said and done. Good thing I sold 3 calves yesterday...
