I just picked up a 72 H1-C a few days ago for a full restoration. Once the cylinder heads where off I new it would be bad. Tried drilling out the
studs first and no way. Been down this road before with the 69 I just finished. They can't stand up to a sawsall  Don't know if this
motor can be saved. Even the shift drum was corroded to the forks. Lot's of heat with MAP gas and got it out. Will bead blast it when it's
all apart and see how bad the case is. This one looks like it went down with the Titanic

I'm hoping to save the cases, won't know till I bead blast them. Everything is pretty much junk. Trans gears looked good, that's about it. It's a matching number
bike but this motor looks like a well used boat anchor

It's cold and raining here and probably going to freeze tonight. Good way to spend the afternoon. I have a big screen TV in the garage and
a fridge with beer. No big deal if I can't save it, at least it's not a 69.

ugh... that does not look like fun.

I've got a peacock H1 that was in about the same shape. 30 years in a field will do that. I actually had a machine shop "remove" the cylinders as I tend to lose patience and am better than most with a HAMMER. He "removed" them in chunks, including chunks of the crank, etc.

I just told him to SAVE THE CASES!....and he did. That bike WILL live again someday.

I got home early today so got the last cylinder off and the crank out (in two pieces). Took the top case to the bead blast cabinet and after a few minutes
I got a better look at the corrosion. Don't like the right cylinder transfer area, pits are pretty bad. I didn't damage the cylinder surface and the bearing
area looks decent. So to the experts here, would you use this case? Haven't cleaned up the bottom case yet so don't no the extent of the corrosion.
First time I have seen a crank break at the pin from corrosion. All in all not bad progress for about 8 hours work.
