May of this year I had a hair raising experience on the moto. I was just West of Kingston, IL, WOT and tucked, then I see them running from the North crossing the road. Deer. OMG! Deer! No chance to slow down. First and second in the line will cross in time, not the third and several more are behind it. I aim the bike for the second one's tail and hope to shoot the gap in front of the third. Closing in the third turns West, we're close, easily less than 10 feet. We run side by side for yards, me watching the muscles on its flank, looking at its eye, willing it to turn away. When it does it leads those behind it back into the field, I look back and count. Five still on the North. I just had a running encounter with seven deer, my heart was racing, I could have been hurt, but damn if that wasn't cool. Run on deer, may you live and grow and one day feed animal or man. Please don't end up road kill.

Ive lived in deer country all my life, Ive hit 2 with my cars, my wife has hit 6 with her cars over the years.
The joke is she's killed more with her car than I have hunting….Im not that great of a hunter, but I go every year ….
Never had a close call on a bike and I hope I never do. I used to ride at night all the time, I don't much anymore as I age Im not as "confident" (read stupid) as I used to be.
I did however ride home last friday night at about 10:30pm, 30 miles or so and I forgot how great it is to ride thru the woods at night with the temp changes and smell of the oaks, however I don't think I exceed 40 miles an hour and most of the time much less.
I don't want to ever hit one of those things on my bike!

A motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a bear in Conejos County Thursday afternoon.

An encounter with wildlife ended tragically for a motorcyclist Thursday afternoon.

Colorado State Patrol says a bear was attempting to cross Highway 17 near Antonito, Colo. just as the rider was approaching. The bear hit the side of the motorcycle, ejecting the motorcyclist. Responding troopers tried to resuscitate the 63-year-old rider. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, the rider is not being identified. State Patrol says he was from Aztec, N.M.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
