I believe some industries like to use terms for themselves... It really only becomes an issue if you cross pollinate... fitment is nothing compared to "mil"
I worked with converters at one point in the past (converter as in paper, film or foil)
They consider something .0005" a 1/2 mil. Of course I told them they are all friggan idiots!
It's a half thou in any other industry except these converter guys.
1/2 mil in Canada could be also be mistaken as .020" or a 1/2 millimetre.
I understand that technically the term mil means 1/1000 but why the confusion?

That's a good one. Since I've lived all my life in a largely English unit country, mil does indeed mean 1/1000 inch to me, and never millimeter. I wonder what the US auto industry means if they say "mil", since they went metric decades ago.

[quote="Jim"]What's with the word "fitment" these days? The tube says it's bearing grease.

"Global Warming", Climate Change, Political Correctness, Fitment..., Sounds intelligent

Now that I know it gets poopoo'd on a 3 series BMW forum, I might use the word more often now!

We use a lot of weird terms in telecom such as......ISDN or "Integrared Switching Digital Network".........actually Means ISDN "I Still Don't Know" or "Innovations Subscribers Don't Need"

Bad parts are always marked NFG, the lady asked what that meant.........."No Friggin Good"

I used the "All Balls" kit on my H2B.....front Hub, back hub, sprocket hub and the tapered steering bearings.....with seals.....seem's like a good kit, don't know if being sealed is good though, what happens to the small amount of grease after a while ?.........also, do not destroy your speedometer hub seal, the kit does not have one, the others worked OK.

Shouldn't they have a branch of the company called "All Rollers"?
