I promise.

1975 Kaw S3A.

We're removing the engine. That motor mount/rod under the front of the engine is being a complete bear to try and knock through. Correct procedure is to take both nuts off that rod--each side of the bike-- and pound it through in order to take it off, correct? I ask as upon further visual inspection, seems like the rod is a two-parter, that it screws together?

What is the correct process to get this mount off? Several strikes with a BFH does not help. Don't want to break anything.

The stud is under pressure from the threads or bound up in the frame or engine case.
Move around the case in the rear and maybe it will fall out?

They come out fairly easily majority of times. If you can, use a floor jack to aleviate a small bit of the engine weight off the bolts as you tap them out. If you removed all but one, the one will have all the weight upon it, making it very difficult to tap out.

Still lodged in there. All rear mounts are still in the engine/frame. It's crazy because the rod spins freely--sort of--but will not be pounded through. Tried jacking it up, no joy. Now going to pull the rear mounts off and see what that does.

I suspect that there is some corrosion built up on the rod on the inboard side of the brackets in the frame. Soak it in Kroil or similar and let it sit overnight. Then use an impact wrench on double nuts and try spinning slowly while pushing. You may have to drive it out with a hammer and a drift.

Any chance that you are being too gentle with it?

One of the things outlined in the factory Kawasaki service procedures is to retorque the engine mounting studs at every service interval. not many dealer service persons actually did any of that stuff during a service interval inspection.

That said, if the studs got loose over the years, the stud can get auger'd away at one or more of the engine mount bosses on the frame, forming a groove in the stud that would recess itself into the mount boss plate hole, and would spin, but not travel sideways (out).

I'd pull the rest of the studs out, and see if you can't manipulate the stud out of the thing.

You mentioned that it looked like that one stud was possibly a two piece part. That wouldn't be stock, and after the years of service these bikes have, could it be that, in fact, there are two studs, with a coupler between them, made by someone eons ago??? Look closely, it might be like that.

Hmm, possibly that one remaining bolt is corroded to the inside diameter of one or both sides of the engine case rubber mounts...? The rubber mounts are supposed to just pop outwards to remove, BUT only after the engine has been cleared of the frame mounting lugs. Double check to see if these rubber mounts with their tubular extensions (extending towards the middle of the cases) are also partially rotating when you are trying to rotate the bolt itself.

Something else just came to mind on the mounting plates. If one of he holes in the end plates was collapsed somewhat closed, it would bind the stud into it, and could allow the stud to rotate, with it not allowed to slide sideways and out of the plate. This would be from one of the end nuts malforming the stud hole closed.

Just more to consider.
