My good friend Dave is trying to figure out exactly what year Indian Chief his late Dad use to have.

Here's what he wrote
Here you go. The best I can tell is it’s a 1935-1939 Indian Chief with a 1940 seat. That seat with the tassles started in 1940 as well as rear suspension which it doesn’t look like this has. In the last picture you can see how the tubes in the rear taper down towards each other under the saddle bags. The 1940 model is different to accommodate the length of the rear shock. This bike used to be a police bike from what he had told me so that would explain putting on a better seat. I think I’ll have to buy a book with lots of pictures to find out anything more… Dave
