I have no interest in owning a currently produced Harley. I don't see that changing when the new 500 and 750 are available. But I am interested in what a US motorcycle company is doing, especially if it signals a possible small change from what it's been doing for a long time. I also don't see anything wrong with an NTR thread discussing it.

Eventually they will either change their game or fade out. I really think the last hurrah was the mid 2000's, sales have been fading slowly since.

The best/worst thing eric buell did was win in his last season of racing for harley (Buell motorcycles). he used a liquid cooled motor to success. I think willie G got some serious butthurt over this and that was the ultimate demise of buell within the HD group.

everybody in the motorcycle communty realized that HD blew it with Buell and Im sure they heard plenty about it.

I think in hindsight they realized they needed to change direction, and now we have the 500 and 750. way too little too late. These guys are soo behind the 8-ball its not even funny. its just sad.
They remind me of a washed out once great band on tour living off t-shirt sales and fond memories of things that probably werent really that good to begin with.

A bit harsh in the end Mark. Agree sales have tanked - but I think it's mostly:
a) The very high cost of a new Big Twin (compared to the 883 and 1200's).
b) The economy and lack of discretionary spending for "luxury" items.
b.1) Enthusiasts are more performance/handling/touring driven now for less money.
c) There exists a lot of Harley haters - and not just because of the name - because they are more b.1 focused like you. Some of us dislike Falcon cars :e11

I didn't realize how bad Harley's sales have been lately.

According to this chart M/C sales are down across the board , I would think the economy and a sales slump are related.

My local HD shop is open 7 days a week has at least one big event a month that draws fairly large crowds.

Yes, you're right, the graphs are very similar.
