I read that they plan to manufacture the units intended for overseas markets in countries that aren't subject to the import duties and/or taxes and tariffs. It sounds like they've put a little thought into this.

I don't know Jim. I did a quick Google and did not see any countries that fit the bill. I've been to 18 countries myself and they all have high tariffs etc. LOL - Nepal has a 150% tax on all vehicles coming into the country. That's why the cheap India 100-200cc bikes are popular.

Is there still an import tax when the product is made by a US company in a US owned factory in a foreign country  Harley built and owns the India factory so maybe there is no import tax, also I read awhile back that the India factory is to build bikes only for the European market not the US market.

They may be onto something. I saw the bike in the attached pictures this summer near Stirling, Scotland.
It wasn't until I saw the learner plate that things fell into place. It looked like a harley but a bit smaller, the scale was perfect.
We meet the owner the follwing day and he had sent to America for the decals. The bike is actually a Hysong.

Jack - I don't think fieldsheer was saying that the Hysong was the same as the Indian made Harley. I believe he was just showing that there is interest in scaled down V-twin clones in Europe. They are definitely NOT the same bike.

It's being made in India solely because of low labour costs. If imported into EU it would have to face the same duties as other non-EU countries such as Japan, and US-made would make its price prohibitive compared to comparable EU-made or Japanese-made bikes.
Not that I'm interested in the slightest. Heck, even a KH500 will easily outperform these two, and the KH is a much better looker. The only area in which the KH would probably lose is fuel consumption.

I don't think euro guys have interesting by small HD.
They like big CI and they think there 're already a small HD the 883.
In fact I beleive they like them because there big CI or CC and they have no risk to be surprised by the power when they open full throttle.
When you like merican bikes or cars in Europe you like big blocks not small blocks.

Oh I guess I did not understand what I was reading  /

Harley probably knows the small bike market they were in it for awhile with Buell then something changed and Buell was kicked to the curb, HD sold a lot of Buell's there even was a Buell with a single cylinder Sportster engine , Buells were known as the Harley that handles
