There used to be a sign over the main entrance of one of the English race venues, I don't remember just which one, possibly Mallory Park. I'll use Mallory as a venue name anyway.

WELCOME TO MALLORY PARK
MOTOR RACING IS DANGEROUS

I always liked to add below it,

SO...PAY ATTENTION

Of course, if we wanted to be very sarcastic, it could go like this,

SO.....BE ALERT, AND, PAY ATTENTION
WE NEED MORE LERT'S WHO PAY ATTENTION

In the mid-1970's in AMA road racing, we used to have great interest in taking a break form the bike work, and all go down to turn 1 at Daytona, for the first turn after the start...of the Novice race. Usually, those grids would have upwards of 100 riders, all starting in just one wave, all herding into turn 1 on the same line, ALL AT ONCE. It wasn't very pretty to watch, parts, bikes, riders flying all over the place, AMA corner officials diving for cover. We just went over the fence and helped pick up the carnage. Thank heaven, that in all those years I watched that, there were no fatalities, nor serious injuries to anyone, bikes are easy to repair, people aren't. It was good that riders only had ONE year to be in the Novice class, who knew what mayhem a two year novice was capable of getting into.
