Can you get the diameter of the groove?

Thank you very much

Jeff

I can disassemble a 2nd time if needed, but can you go by the thickness of the "C" clip and add a hair?

Fair enough for restoration, lotsa work, but very rewarding.

Kawasaki wasn't the only manufacturer to use those clevis pins and circlips. Online parts diagrams should help find some, might not be stock 'mother Kawi", but, same as well.

Cant get over the fact he misplaced them. :banghead Thanks for all the help.

I think hes looking for the depth of the groove.

I tried measuring the groove diameter but the tips/blades of my calipers are too thick and won't fit down in the groove. I tried eyeing and lining up the caliper to the end of the pin, but I just couldn't get what I felt would be an accurate guestimate this way. I think it best for accuracy that I send you this pin (along with the clip to check final fit), so that your finished product will fit right. PM me your address and I'll get this to you if that's alright with you.

I would also be interested in 4 of these pins for my two early H1's if possible. Thanks.

Try finding a piece of solid wire that will fit down into the groove, put it all the way into the groove, and use a thumb nail up against the wire, then, measure the wire, end to thumb nail. Double that distance, subtract it from OD of pin.

Hey Darrin, doesnt your caliper set have a piece that comes out the end when you open it up?
It can be used for measuring the depth of holes and such.
Set the arse end of your vernier on the pin and roll it out until the end of it hits the bottom of the groove.
That distance is the depth of the groove dude.
OR measure the hole in the circlip.

Smart these Chinese, err Japanese....

I'd think the groove width is quite a bit smaller than the thickness of the depth measure on the end of the caliper. Might not fit the groove.

Please also remember that the circlip will have an inner diameter smaller than the OD of the groove cut depth, so it stays in place by diameter differential size/pressure. Any good hardware store should have what is called an "E clip", that is what was on the pin from the factory. In most cases, SAE sizes will work on these smaller metric diameters, and, metric E clips are available from parts houses like McMaster-Carr, too.

You could get close by using shim stock / feeler gauge by inserting in the groove, marking the OD and measuring.
It wouldn't be exact but probably close enough to make it work.
I suppose knowing the ID of the clip wouldn't hurt either to check the interference fit.

Okay, here's what I ended up doing. I took my cheap, cheap plastic calipers which had very narrow tips/blades, and placed them in the groove of the pin, being careful to lightly close them up just to the sides of the pin, then used my other cheap HB digital calipers to match as closely as possible the opening of the plastic calipers. Wearing my glasses and eye-balling it, I came up with a measurement of 5.15mm. I believe this will suffice since even when the clip is affixed, there is some lateral play, so you might even be okay to go larger diameter than this. If you still would like me to send you the actual pin and clip, just let me know. Keep in mind, this is a used one - not NOS, but still snugs up sufficiently.

Thanks,
I think that should work.
