I've always wondered what it would take to make a KX500 handle for street use as there are dual sport kits already in existence.
Lightweight and power are already covered.

I think the major part would be trying to keep the vibs under control.

Never ridden either but perhaps a CR500 might be a better choice.
Seems like the bikes would sit very tall for street use and not sure if the frame geometry would be workable.
The bike in this thread does look really nice but I like 75 HP as the minimum for street fun.

Jim, you gotta try a teeny bike on the twisties. I felt the same way you do, until I rode Mark's 100cc Yamaha on the Dragon, and now I'm a complete convert. The H2 is still tons of fun, and good for long rides, but that 100 was huge fun.

There are all kinds of these cool 2-strokes running around in Singapore. New Kawis, hondas and a bunch of nice older RD 125s. They sound cool and are quite zippy. The locals put a bunch of aftermarket parts on them and they look like moto GP bikes. I asked a local bike shop about the possiblility of RD 350s and they said they are rare and no one wants them because they burn too much gas! Couldn't find one to bring home.

There have been many that have tried to tame the big 500 2 stroke singles for the street and track. Even with rubber mounts none were successful in building a ridable one. Vibration is just terrible.

Main reason I'm hanging onto my 1991 CR500 - will make a super great street machine!

Ugghhh
Don't remind me about the time that Steve (sorry I can't remember his name here) passed me on some little Derby thing like I was parked at the Gap.
Granted that he is a better rider but embarrassing for a 500 to be left in the dust.

Agreed that the little bikes are fun in the twisties but I don't have much of that style of road around here.

What, around the DC area no twisties? Take Beach Drive from Garret Park Rd. to the National Zoo. On the way to the zoo, go up to the stables at Military Rd., taking Ross up the hill, then left on Ridge, and back to Beach on Broad Branch. You can go back north on Beach there, and make it a 4-mile loop. Then there are plenty of cool old back roads along the river from Seneca Creek to Poolesville, and around there, or along the river past the various locks. Also Glen Rd, South Glen Rd., Glen Mill Rd., Travilah Rd., etc.. I know you know about all these. :D
