My tin is ready, going to do some test pieces first before I attempt the body parts.

Ive done some paint jobs with DuPont or HOK and lots of expensive paints with my nice gun .
I sprayed the rat rod here with my 12.00 primer gun and cheap one stage paint.painted the yellow with left over paint from my 69 Z28 302

One last thing I thought of - Durability. On the whole store bought rattle cans contain inferior quality paint so there will be durability issues. Coating solvent based rattle can paint with a 2 part clear isn't technically sound but it will look good for a while. All freshly painted tins will look nice until in use they see some stonechips/zipper scuffs/spilled gasoline etc - that's when they will show their quality.

If possible get the rattle cans made up by the same supplier to make sure that each is compatible with the other. And the final clearcoat must be of good quality, as that has the most 'work' to do in terms of protecting what's under it. Modern clearcoats have UV filters in them which not only prevents colour fading but protects decals from fading also. ;)

I agree and was thinking that too .
The rattle can paint should last maybe
A couple years? But its so fun for some to
do they can do it over again when it fades ?

for a few more dollars (compared to rustoleum/krylon/testors/etc), you can also have a paint supply shop fill aerosol cans with quality (PPG/Dupont/HOK/etc) paint.

Yep that's what I meant. Store bought paint is just soft lacquer based stuff and it won't stand up very well, also with decals at over £50 a pop I wouldn't want to be re-doing the paint every couple of years either. It's fun to experiment though, maybe on a spare tank or panels.

Actually the blue KZ has been holding up for over 3 years now. Of course it's been parked in a garage so who knows. From everything I've read, the 2k clear pretty tough and I've abused the heck out of it (including gas spills etc) with no problems. Of course, YMMV. The color coats I've used are the Duplicolor Metalspec and hey go on and dry up better than any rattle paint I've used yet. Spec colors are seriously limited though but hte standard "touch-up" colors are a similar formula.
