You really like to make me ask questions eh...

Why do you reckon it's a bad idea John?
I had the bling covered 3 posts ago...

Bad idea...why? Just the weight savings alone would be a bonus if nothing else. I'm sure it is a minimal savings based on the size and number of holes that are drilled into these rotors, but weight is weight.

Why do all modern sport bike rotors have holes or slots in them then? Strickly bling? The EX500 caliper that will be used on this rotor was originally used on a drilled rotor. Is there something specific about drilling holes in a H1/H2 rotor?

The Denco H2 discs have sharp enough edges on the holes to shave your fingernails if you drag them across the edges.. Even after 3500 "enthusiastic" miles...
That bike stops (er, stopped  ) EXTREMELY well for being an antiquated stock "dual-disc" setup. Even in the rain, it stops great. Where on stock (undrilled) discs, as soon as they got wet, they turned to grease.

Chamfering the holes is most definitely not necessary. IMHO, it (chamfers) is just an aesthetic thing as they look nice

If you want to do it, fine, just not necessary with a good caliper/s. Weight savings is minimal, but does help. And newer discs are almost all wave rotors, as that removes more weight, than just holes. Personal preference is the key......

I have a set of modern rotors and the holes on them are not chamfered.

These actually had a raised burr protruding above the surface, you could catch your fingernail on it at most of the holes. :problem: Not huge, maybe 5 thou or so but they at least needed to be stoned to a flat surface or they would chew up the pads in a hurry! I didn't want to do that because it would be hard not to show on the nice newly turned surface. :x Chamfer is no more than .010" deep, and they do look NICE!

Machining burs are different, they can be shaved of filed off.

Yes, but filing would also bugger up the nice surface, so I shaved them off with a chamfer bit! :e11
