Nah, sorry, no go. Absolutely tired of butting heads with know it all's that weren't there when something occurred, when I WAS, and was directly involved with it. Those people just seem to know all the urban myths, and none of the way it really came down/works correctly. So, I just read for the most part any more, and continue to do what I know works. Then, I go out and have fun riding/driving the stuff I fix that the know it all's have pre-messed up.

I just looked at a topic that had a gorgeous H2 in it, cross over pipes, single rear shock, reed valve engine, beautiful, stunning work. And, although the engine will run well, if the porter had added two more slot ports to the bottom of each inlet port, and cut the rear of the piston skirts like the OW31 Yamaha pistons that I got blasted clean out of the universe for in another topic, I am sure it'd run even better. The bike is fantastic, and the workmanship is second to none, but, there are subtle things that may well have made it just that umpteenth better. NOT BAD as is.

Those of us that WERE involved with Kawasaki and triples back in the early 70's, are 99% of the time, NOT the ones who give you crap Dave.
I and many others here enjoy your tales of glory from way back then.

Kinda like the Mayor said in OZ.
Pay no attention to the fools behind the curtain. LOL

I am fully aware of the good guys here, and the bad ones. I have nothing but the greatest respect for the good guys, older, and younger, but, I simply refuse to have a battle of wits and experience with an unarmed person.

There was no "glory" in any of all this, just doing what I always do, work on bikes, fix the stuff that doesn't work, and feel happy I could make it all right. Never had any idea of glory, didn't want it, don't want it now, just the best running bikes that can be done.

There is no glory in getting only 30 hours, in small amounts, for the TWO weeks of both Imola (Italy), and The Easter March Race Series (England). just a lot of hard work, travel, no sleep, and, winning the races.

So, I'll just stay on the sidelines, thanks. Let all the now it all's have all the glory they crave so much.

H2RTuner, I originally posted this pic beacause it caught my interest and I knew you'd be the person that had some input on it. I also remembered reading about it in a little write up you wrote on the resource site before. I enjoy reading about the times before EFI, Traction Control, GPS, and on board diagnostics. To me, the times that you hammered through and paved the way for todays glory queens on bikes, were the times men had balls. Big fvcking balls. I enjoy your input. Although a lot of it is way over my head, I still learn from it and appreciate it. Everyone has their opinions, just don't let theirs affect you. Keep up the great work you do to provide us with knowledge and keeping the passion of riding and working on triples alive.

Well I appreciate the kind words, but I can't claim to be in the military. I'm a private contract worker out here working as a Paramedic. I never joined the service, but I figured this was a good way to support them the best way I know how.

Dave
if i had listened to all the people who said my case reed bike would not work and heat treating would not correct my welded crank case, i would not have the stonking road bike i have now. Just ask RB :)
And by the way all i need now is a dry clutch and my engine will have every thing.

I agree, case reeds are a heck of a lot better than cylinder reeds, which, themselves, are leaps and bounds better than piston ports.

BEST setup for a triple was used in a prototype I rode in very late 1971, Japan. This engine was air cooled, had the primary take off between right and middle cylinders, large transfers, and 3 ROTARY valves. The carbs were behind the cylinders, and the two outside rotary valves were faced out. Center valve was a two piece thing, mounted on the crankshaft after the crank was assembled, holder ring set into place to hold the valve itself together, and in place.

The cases had the center rotary valve channel and intake port for the center cylinder expertly cast into them. The rotary valve passage on the left of the center cylinder, and the primary drive on the other side of the center cylinder left it will giant teansfer passages, 6 of them. Well done. The transmission was a cassette, very advanced for that day, and the case split was horizontal, much like later Yamaha TZ V-twins. Seems the engineer for this engine went to work for Yamaha.....after the previous company folded, just 3 months after I rode this prototype.......

BRIDGESTONE. It is my hands on opinion that if they had built this 650CC triple bike, we'd be riding, and hopping up this design, and its later variations, instead of as much as we do on our Kawasaki triples. It handled well, stopped like no StoneBridge before it, had dual front disks, rear double leading shoe drum brake, cantilevered rear shocks, much more. Only things I thought back then that would help would have been to make it larger cc's, liquid cooled, and rear disk brake. Never did get a picture of either of those two prototypes, my loss.
