I've come across a couple H1 engines only, side covers missing, do not appear locked up - what is a fair amount to offer? They are not early serial numbers, and I forgot to write them down.....

Also, came across what I believe is a 250 or 350 - ???

And crapped out 500's - are there any benchmarks on what to offer for used/parts bikes?

For example, here is a 1970 H1 frame/engine, no title -

It looks like it's got the electronics, but good or not, well....

Here is a 1974 parts bike, no title, loosing more pieces every day - "bad crank" is what I was told.

And here are a couple motors, small, 250 or 350, one complete, one is cases only - They're hiding in the back, I almost missed them
Image

And here is a complete bike with one toasted cylinder - Complete, well, mostly, not all stock - I've not approached the owner (yet)

Look at that fancy paint job
Image

Exhausts, not looked to see what they fit -

Not a triple, but I sure like it and always wanted a Trials bike -

and I'm glad I did not find any triples out here -

Fun stuff, eh? Thanks in advance!

This probably isn't what you are looking for... but as a potential buyer of a 500 (or any) engine there are several questions that I would have to determine worth.

-is clutch pack included
-is oil pump included
-engine covers/condition
-bent/broken fins
-type ignition side components, if any
-bore size/condition
-shift fork condition
-crank seal condition
-compression

A guy just recently purchased a 500 engine with a bent rod.

Answers to these questions obviously requires some effort but will offer a means to determine true value.

Im assuming that this is for "part-out/investment" value?

I'd like to see the engines stay together, so no.

mraxl -And I keep forgetting about how easy it is to check the engines/bore's on these - two strokes rock in that regard.

The two motors I found the other day looked complete, I am going back Tuesday as I know there are more triple items there, I'll take a camera. I'd like to know what to offer for the motors, a fair price, for everyone. The guy told me they chucked a bunch of heads and cylinders into the scrap aluminum heap, so I'm concerned the fins/etc may be dinged up on the two complete engines I saw.

I'd like to look at the scrap pile as well......

Now I'm swamped with NOS parts and used parts may not fit into my business plan, maybe they (motors) would be worth buying for the future.

And the others, the owner deserves to get a fair price for them, we'll not go into how some have already taken advantage of him.....

Thank you

Unknown triple engines aren't worth much. I paid something like $500 for a halfway complete basket case S2 and S3, and that was for both whole motorcycles. And I feel I certainly didn't cheat the guy for the rusty old parts. Both engines turn freely, too.

Well I figure as long as you beat the scrap aluminum value, he's coming out ahead. If it was me, motor pretty complete, fins arent broken and the internals dont look like the engine has been used as a boat anchor, I'd offer him $100 a block.

If you end up buying that KT and in need of an oem shop manual and also an assembly/preparation manual, I've got both so we could possibly work out a trade for a part or two perhaps...?

In regards to the motors, a year or two ago I paid $315 shipped for a 69 KAE-03XXX motor minus carbs, stuck pistons, but with bridgeport cylinders. I haven't yet given it my full attention to pop the cylinders loose, but the price was probably at the upper end of what this motor was worth...?
