Spent this past weekend at the Gap. Rain threatened but the weather turned out great.

The crowd was realatively low; maybe less than half of what we're use too. The hotel was only half full. One sportbike group of a dozen or so; including three chicks riding their own. Of course the HD crowd was dominant; one small group after another roaring in & out.

Everyone was nice. One of the sportbike guys asked: "What kind of Kawasaki is that ?", Another asked why it sounded that way. His buddy explained for me; comparing it to a weed-eater. :banghead

One HD guy said he'd never buy a foreign bike. One of his buddies spoke up, "Hell...don't you have a toyota truck !" So that snide remarked turned into a good laugh.

A fellow with his girl on the back showed up on a 77 RD. That was a nice treat to see.

A low crowd meant great riding through the Gap. I flew through the Gap time after time and only had to pass a few HD's. Never saw a single cop.

The hotel crew said to say "Hi !" to all you guys.....

I'd like to plan a trip with my dad to go down in the fall, maybe even throw in a uncle, cousin or family friend.

Just about 9 more months and I'll be there or have a baby trying ;)

Thanks for the Gap report.

Ric, i'm heading to the florida keys at the end of feb, i always throw a kawi triple in the van just to get around down there, this year i was thinking of hitting the gap on the way up to show the area to my lady....any idea how mild or nasty the weather is at that time of year there ? if it's usually in the 60's or so , it might be worth the extra 400 mile detour.

Russ, I don't mean to butt in front of Rick, but February in western NC can be pretty variable. It might be sunny and in the 60s, or you might get an ice storm. All I can recommend is to watch something like the Intellicast 10-day forecast for Tapoco and keep your return route flexible.

Hey Russ....Jim is right, but the probability of clear weather in the 60's is very low in Feb.. You're much more likely to run into cold, wet, ice. But, watch the weather.

And, why do you go to the Florida Keys ???
