I hear you John, but this is what I found to work. Could be a cracked carb body or something, I don't know for sure. The enrichener valve and the bore are in excellent condition - no flaws. It is adjusted correctly with slack in the cable. The spring works properly to hold the valve down. I was really pulling my hair out with this carb problem.

It could be possible that you have a bad seat in the carb for the chocke plunger. Did you try blowing air up in it while the choke plunger and spring are installed? That tube is supposed to go straight to the choke port. I did bin a carb for doing exactly what yours was doing but the choke was seated so it could really only be a crack casting.

If you decide you want a carb, hit me up. I have plenty of bodies lying around. Free of charge.

Thanks to all who helped me with my carbs. They are all working equally well now. After going around the block a few times I decided I was ready to head out of the neighborhood. I gassed it up at the local Shell station and hit the road. The weather was perfect and I headed south on 67 towards Spencer, IN. The bike ran very well during this shakedown cruise. Nothing malfunctioned or worked improperly during the 100 mile round trip. No surprises.

This is the first time I have ever ridden the S3 (or any triple). It was much smoother than I thought it would be. Power was adequate and smooth through the whole range. I am very pleased with the bike.

I still need pipes and upholstery but at least I can ride it now. I am a real triple owner now. :D

Thanks Ian, it is an ongoing effort. I spent over two months just getting the carbs sorted out and nearly have it right. It has been worth the effort. I took it over to a big bike dealership here in Indy. Guys were drifting out of the shop to look it over while I was buying some oil. They had a lot of questions for me.

Great story, been following your build. A chrome set of Jim's pipes would be perfect for this, unless you intend to keep it stock.....?

Rod - I am leaning toward Jim's pipes. If I could find a good set of stock pipes I would keep it stock but they seem to be rare.

Decent S3 pipes are kinda hard to come by. The best used pipes I've saw I bought off ebay from someone in Canada. I dont know if they were a board member or not. There's a couple scrapes on the underside but top down polished up they look nice.......and only one tiny spot of acid stain.

Glad you got your bike all straightened out. Looks good and I'm not saying that cause Im partial to the paint.

Moo - I am following up on this topic. In an earlier post on this thread I claimed that the open bottom tube was causing rich operation and that I fixed it by soldering the tube shut at the bottom.

You were correct. That tube had nothing to do with my problem. The bike ran fine after I closed the tube up. Then, one day, I was starting it up with the choke. I rode it for about 10 miles and lost fire on the RH cylinder - just like in the past. What the hell? I pulled the plug and it was sloppy rich again. When I inspected the choke cables I found my problem. One of the choke cables hangs up and there is zero play. It must be holding the plunger off of the seat in the enrichener. I need to pull the tank and see if I can improve the routing of that cable.

Thanks for always trying to help me out. I will get it right eventually.
