Howdy everyone, been a while. I think a burnt the clutch on my 75 H2 up a few weeks back. It was that second gear burn out at the drags. Anyway, i am looking at my manual and i am just making sure i am doing this the easiest way.

To get to the clutch what is the easiest way to get around/behind the oil injector? Once i get in there i will check the plates and the springs tolerance, but I know something is off. Slips bad at about 3-4k RPM. When i drained the oil it actually looked ok, not burnt. But i gotta get in there to look at it. Just wanna make sure i do this the easiest way. Thanks DocRick

Best to detach the lines or risk breaking them.

ok, got the whole the cover off and the springs are in spec. next when looking at my clutch fibers and steels. what exactly do i want to see to tell if they are beat or not. i mean the clutch was slipping as soon as the bike would come on the pipe at about 3500 to 4k RPMs. so i am guessing I might as well just replace the clutch pack. but what should i see to visually tell they are spent. or just measure em and see if they are thinner than spec calls for?

Thanks

Everything is probably 35 yeas old. I would replace the pack, and throw in 3 heavy duty springs add two of the stockers and some good 2 stroke tranny oil.

an update on my first clutch rebuild!! runs like a raped ape now! took me a few attemps to get it correct. Once i got the splines on the pressure plate lined up with the basket and the arrows and dots lined up....i was golden.

the fibers were BEAT!! the steeles and springs were way within spec and good. Thanks for the tips Moo and Battelax.

Hey Moo, you meantioned throw some good 2 stroke tranny oil in? what do you prefer? i went with.....Valvoline 10w-40 as i read in the maintenance manual. I know oil discussions are like politics...lol. I just know Moo, you will have a nice inexpensive recommndation that may work as good or better.

Thanks all

Drain that crap before you fry your new stuff. Vavoline hypoid oil for limited slip transmissions. Any weight 70 to 90.
