I would bet the extremely weak cast aluminum section
I managed to break one just reinstalling and adjusting the stupid thing

I may still have the old one but am not so sure it is weldable as it looks like it was cast from crap alum.

yes thats the part ,was it made of aluminium?
the one pictured looks to have some rust on it.
i quess i will have to try and fab one up

The easily broken latch is aluminum . the "catch" is steel.

You are lucky; that part can be fbbed easily
Be super careful with the aluminum piece with the key lock.

I have a key for the latch lock for my H1D. I will never lock it as the replacement costs are just too much if somebody breaks it.
