At Quaker Oats Cedar Rapids (where I am employed) 21 people from our shipping dept. won the lottery, somewhere north of $7,000,000 apiece. It is a strange day at work. HR is scrambling to deal with the vacancies.

What? They quit? there goes their corporate discount on porridge -- some people just don't take time to work things out properly!

$7m is a good chunk of money, but it's really not all that much anymore. It's enough to live upper middle class for the rest of your life if you manage your finances well. I just heard on the news a few days ago that raising the "average" kid is up to $250K nowadays. I bet a lot of those people will overspend and be out of money within 10 years...

I was thinking that half of them will blow the half they get to keep after taxes on a big house and a couple expensive cars and be looking for their old jobs back in a year.

They will also encounter friends they never knew they had  and also discover who their real friends are. As they say "Either you keep your money, or you keep your friends"

It's amazing the number of lottery winners that are broke in 10 years.....
