Hello Forum Members,

I need to match, as close as possible to the original blue color of the 1972 H2 Blue.

It's just for a little touch up on some of the body work.

Has anyone looked at Testor's model paint? They carry many shades of blue and I was wondering if anyone has made a close match?

I would like to go into a hobby shop, but there aren't any close by, so if someone has knowledge of a good match I would just order it online.

A bit expensive, and not from a hobby-shop, but Nissan Intense Blue Pearl, code BV4, is as close as I have found; it works.

House of Kolors Oriental Blue.

The question is which '72 blue? My early '72 was almost sky blue, and my later '72 is way darker.

I've always wondered about the light blue ones, the rest of the World seemed to get only "dark" blue bikes. I've never seen the light blue here in Aus. for example.

Since it's a three stage candy you adjust the color by adding more coats of the translucent blue. The House of color oriental blue will match very well with a white pearl basecoat and right at 3 coats of blue. The original Kawasaki formula had a silver pearl and a white pearl basecoat. If you do it that way keep the silver pearl coat light so the white pearl shows through. One thing about candy paint, it is very adjustable.

The lack of light ones in AU may have to do with when they were made and where those were shipped. My light blue H2 was made in December 1971. Have you seen any made in late 71?

Well, mine was H2E-05758, so relatively early, I think I got it in about Feb. '72. I didn't see the light blue bikes until I got on the Forums. And the pearl over base colors can vary quite a bit, the Nissan example I gave is a modern C.O.B. fuss free equivalent. The multi layer pearls over silver base is a bit old-tech now, takes a specialist to get right, generally speaking.
