I'm seeking thoughts and options for a new wiring harness for my H1A. I bought a Doremi one a couple of years ago but the wires and colours they used didn't match the original harness. Some of the connectors were not correct either. Overall, it was of no use to me.
Has anyone bought a reproduction harness recently that is correct, good quality and doesn't require one to sell their first born to afford it? I'd appreciate recommendations and feedback. Thanks in advance
Hi - I can't help by pointing to a specific product, but I can share my own thoughts, and maybe give some advise.
These repro harnesses are made in small quantities, so its fair to assume that they are "generic" - more or less.
Without knowing condition of your current harness, or how much is left of it, you might find it better to rebuild the old one. Takes time but its not rocket science provided you have a
diagram to look at. Start looking here:
http://www.kawatriple.com/subwiring.htmIt's relatively easy to solder new terminals to old wires were neccessary. But again it all depends on the state of your current harness.
An alternative is to buy the repro harness you trust the best / looks most like a H1A, but then be prepared to modify it.
For me - restoring an 1970 H1 Euro model, I realized that I would never find a suitable repro harness, due to the differences, but luckily the old one was in pretty good shape.
I've never been electronics wizard, but reading some Classic Bike articles (I can provide you with a copy) and buying a cheap soldering iron + a couple of hours practice on old wires, enabled me to restore my original harness.
This is how it looked before I finished:

The job must be finished off using new tape or heatshrink.
