I also found that it's easier to put mine in 2nd and walk it forward while sitting on it, than it is to use the kick starter. A DT100 can be made into an excellent Dragon bike, by the way.

Hey Jim.......where is your recent track video on the DT100.......would like to see that !..........I'll bet that pipe (carb and portwork I beleive ?) makes that a screamin demon  ............mines the little enduro, I believe yours was the street version.

It's a 1978 Yamaha DT100 Enduro, it just doesn't look like an enduro any more. I started a new thread so we wouldn't hijack this one so badly:

And now the bike falls on it's face when I rip the throttle, but will get up to speed if I'm gentle. :banghead

Piston, cylinder and rings look fine. Plug looks good. Verified the RTV is still preventing arcing to ground from the coil wire. After work I'm going to pick up a compression tester, see how that looks and check the points breaker gap.

Figured out this morning that the 1995 KE's coil is a direct swap for my bike. I haven't replaced the original up to this point because it was no longer available. I'm tired of having the wire in my head as a potential problem.

Sounds like a jetting problem.

Think it could be the Keyster main jet? I should have the proper Mikuni Tuesday or Wednesday.

If it stumbles when you suddenly open the throttle, but runs OK if you gradually open it, that sounds like a carb/jetting thing. Whatever carb you use, you should follow that jetting procedure that was pointed out above, not only to get it running as well as it can, but to protect your new piston and bore. The real Mikuni is a good starting point. John Lutz of Mid Atlantic Cycle is a Sudco dealer, and gets me Mikuni jets at a decent price when I need them.

Thanks Jim!

I think I'm going to take a break from the bike till the Mikuni main jet arrives and start over from scratch on adjusting this thing.

Might be a little early, but I believe we were all wrong. Having let the bike sit for a bit, I went back to it today. Wouldn't even start.

Swap the original carb back on, nothing.

Check for spark, very weak.

Remove tank, no arcing to ground.

Check gap, adjust. Tap the backside of the breaker as I remove the tool after tightening it and see the breaker fall when it should be up. Pull the flywheel, dang heel section has completely sheered off, heel being held in place by the spring only....

I'm guessing the WOT hiccups was it starting to break, it got worse leading to it not wanting to run with any load, then broke all the way for the current no start condition.

Might have the replacement (and spares) by next Wednesday.
