After a slight setback this morning when a 30 year old hydraulic hose separated at the crimp connector and bathed the rear of the Deutz in hydraulic fluid.... A trip to town for a new hose and 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid replaced we are back in business.... 108 rolls baled today by noon when I left and about 200 more raked in a windrow and ready before I departed.

Now there's a cool utility flatbed truck. Who did the conversion?

I have a Duetz Allis lawn tractor with a Kohler 20hp twin and 60" deck. It is power steering, hi/low range, dual brakes and posi lock. It is 35 years old and is the best mower I have ever used. I do not show it any mercy and it just keeps on chugging along. The first thing I noticed in the pic at the beginning of your thread was the green color.

My Daddy and a man that worked for him cut the back off and shaped the metal that now makes up the "cab" They used circular saws with metal cutting blades and a cutting torch....He said it was one hell of a job... Daddy paid the church $500 for that bus from the local church when they got a new one. It has a CAT in line 6 turbo diesel and an automatic transmission. Runs like a clock. I can haul 17 big round bales that weigh about 700 pounds apiece easily. I have 17 on in the picture.

Yeah that old Deutz is a tough bastard. Daddy bought it new in 85 and called it Hitler. It sets 9 months a year and the rake is always hooked to it. It always starts 1st try and just keeps on goin'... The hydraulic lift arm cylinder leaks a bit and will be replaced after this season. It is very frugal on fuel and doesn't use any oil.

Not sure on the transmission. I think it has 3 forward speeds. I will take a pic.

I have one in a motor home that has two ranges, 1-2 and 3-6. You normally leave it in 3-6. 1-2 would be great for creeping around a field, loading hay. I think I could do a burnout in 1. One cool feature is that the torque converter locks in every gear after it shifts, so it's about as efficient as a manual transmission.

Just yesterday with the load in the picture, I drove it out of a river bottom field so steep you can hardly walk up the incline. I put her down in low and she chugged right on up out of there. We haul hay all summer on 1 tank of fuel 8-) 8-) 8-)
