Barry, which 747-400 version? That plane is on my coolest planes of all time list. My favorite, I think, is a 727. I love the noise being in the rear, and they seem to have above average power/weight. My problem is I haven't flown on any of the newer planes.

Jim,I've flown the 747-100/200 and now the 400 !!! Delta is getting ready to retire the 747-400 so it looks like I will be training on the Boeing 777 before too long !!!! All beautiful airplanes !!! Hate to see the 747-400 go,been flying the 400 for the last 15 years !!! Started on the 747-100/200 in 1990 !!! So been flying on the 747 for 25 years now, just lucky to have had the opportunity to be a pilot on the 747,just a beautiful airplane and its been one heck of a ride !!!

Cool. I was wondering which -400 model it was. Going to Japan, I thought you probably had a 747-400ER. I flew to Narita airport once, back in the '80s, on a 747. I was absolutely amazed at everything about the flight, including getting in that thing, with so many sections of seating, with two aisles all the way to the nose, lumbering down the runway at the better part of a million pounds, feeling like it couldn't possibly ever get off the ground, to the fact that it was going from Kennedy airport in NY to Tokyo nonstop, over the Arctic. It's a tribute to man's abilities, for sure.

Jim only one model of the 747-400 that I know of !!! There is a new 747-800 and they are selling some to the cargo companies, but the days of the 4 engine jets are coming to an end !!!! The 777 has a ER version as does the 767,but the 400 has always been just the 400 and that is because it has for engines !!!! The new 777 EX that is in the works will kill any version of the 747 because it will carry more people, has a longer range and burns 30% less fuel than the 747 !!! When I was first hired I flew the 727,but they are long gone now.Just a different era !! The Flight Director,Auto Pilot,Flight Management computer systems and just about everything else on the new generation jets make the older airplanes totally obsolete !!!

Cool pics :!: looks cold too,,,,,,

last plane ride I took had interesting landing big jumbo jet from Germany to New Jersey we landed taxi down run way I was looking out the window and I said wow this is a really old taxi way it had weeds 2 feet tall growing out of cracks in the pavement Capt stops plane comes on the intercom and tells us passenger that he made a wrong turn on taxi way and the pavement can not support the weight of the jumbo jet so we had to wait for bus to come out to us to off load , it took 2 hours and a school bus to get everyone off, the Capt said he was sorry and embarrassed

Jackman, as a private pilot I can tell you navigating taxi ways for me is much harder than navigating cross country.
