I had a '76 KE 100. I seem to remember getting about 75 miles before a refill. That was 1.5 gallons. Cost was 54 cents to fill. I weighed around 135lbs then. That works out to around 50ish mpg. Looks like you are in the ball park.

Went out with the "boyz" last week around the Leelanau peninsular, 100 mile round trip, maybe 40 miles at 50 MPH, 20 at 60 MPH 20 at 70 MPH and 20 at 90 MPH and the occasional Ton, generally "spirited Riding, we all filled up at the start together and we all filled up at the end together.

GPZ 750 Turbo : 41.3 mpg

1973 Z1 : 43.1 mpg

1974 S3 with Dencos : 36.73 mpg

1975 H2c Ported with Spec II pipes, flat slides Etc : 34.48 mpg

43 seems on the low side for a 100. My Yamaha DT100 got through the Dragon three times on one tank, and ran out as I came down the hill to the parking lot the last time. It has a 1.1 gallon tank on it, and each round trip is 22 miles, so 60 mpg with lots of WOT. Maybe the reed valve helps the Yam.

I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs, not terribly big, but it may have a bit to do with it.

Wonder if there's much I can do to get some more MPGs.

That or find a bigger tank to put on it.

I want more range.

Maybe grab a flat gas can and either bolt it on or keep it in a backpack?

Make sure you're not running rich in the throttle region you use most of the gas in. If you drop the needle a notch, keep your ears open for pinging.

You are really just overloading a little bike, that 100 is for kids to putt around town and fiddle about in the woods or desert. Just carry extra fuel, I don't think you are going to get any better mileage out of the motor.

Aside from the bolt that holds the carb in place, the carburetor is completely stock and there are no adjustment notches on the needle.

Overloading? I'm not that big...

I do most likely run it a bit harder than most people would and my distance rides definitely mean I ride it for much longer. But yeah, I kinda doubted that I would be able to get any better mileage. I'd love to find a bigger tank for it.
