The cracking comes from the shaft being slammed against the case. This is from a gear getting kicked out of engagement, loose/broken drum hold down bolts, rounded dogs from sloppy trans shimming or worn out shifting components.

10-4 Moo and here is the evidence

1st gear shift fork is deeply galled and wasted and looks very slightly bent, the others dont look good either (supposed to be having a set made HVCcycle thru Aussies)

The 1st gear on the output shaft that has slots look bad as does the 4th gear the locks with it.........the 3rd gear dogs have some rounding as well :problem: ........looks like I will be chasing some gears as well

To me, the input shaft gears and shift drum don't look bad at all........we will see what Mark at R&D transmission says :?:

Also found that my clutch release seal had been pushed in and cut in half....yipee.....was leaking when I got it 13 months ago.....I did keep it topped up on tranny oil though

Might as well share for future reference and Thank You All for the PM's and advise

Phil, I had an H2b with a crack exactly like that in the same place....on an H2b no less. Found a welder down the street and he welded for pennies, just a careful grind and it was back on the road.
I'll call you next week to come over and pick up my chairs.......

Get ready, it usually takes 3 or 4 transmissions to make a good one with Mark.........

Ahhh, always fun to see a bike that that, that I was able to contribute to, even if in a small way. I did a set of ignition units for him this year.

Baby triple is doing fine Phil. Running better but still needs tinkering. Priority is the leaky front fork seals replacement so I can take it to RB's next month. Lots of patina I will be trying to rub out with brillo pad. Not sure yet if it will end up as a rider or full on restore. All it takes is time and money.

I talked to Mark at R and D in Florida about doing my trans a couple of months ago and low and behold his shop is on the same street I used to tow vehicles at in the early eighties. We had our impound yard on his street. We yakked about how much it had changed since and how fckd up the whole shebang is now. Knows his stuff. Small world.

Cody to the rescue on this one :!: , got a good set of 73 cases

Thanks again my friend !.......I spent all weekend on them.......got the cylinder stud put in and three of the small transmission studs........wire brushed.......several times with brake cleaner......chased the threads with a die.......blew them out with an air nozzle.......washed twice in hot soapy water

Put the transmission in it, boxed it up again and it is already on its way to R&D transmission (Mark) to be undercut and reshimmed and put in proper order.........hopefully my shift forks will be here soon from HVC cycle, some Willoughby guy is making them (lost wax casting then heat treating) in Aussieland...........hey Rod, I thought a willoughby was an animal like a kangaroo :?:

Anybody ever heard of him or used his shift forks :?:

Bill Agent H2, thanks for dropping by the house the other day

THX again :!:
