We just had a small earthquake here. There was an obvious rumbling sound, and the ground was clearly moving around. The big movements tapered off in 10-15 seconds, but it took about two minutes for a mirror on the wall to stop moving on its own. There was not enough movement to make anything fall from shelves. This is the first time I was absolutely sure I experienced one. Of course the west coast guys will be amused at my post.

I just read that it was centered a little east of Charlottesville, VA, and was magnitude 5.9. I hope the members up that way are OK. Tim Steele is less than 1/2 as far away as I am.

I didn't feel it at work, but the wife said she felt some minor shaking in the house. This is Eastern PA.

Here in Central NY there was a definate presence.
I was driving back to the office in a car and did not feel a thing.
But everyone at the office was buzzing about it and about ten people asked me if I felt it.
No damage in this area at all. A good 400-500 miles or more from the epicenter.
I hope all our triple brothers are safe and did not lose power or anything worse.

I read that power and cell phone service around Richmond was lost for a while, and three 5 to 8 foot pinnacles broke off the central tower of the National Cathedral in DC. There was some damage in central VA, but no serious injuries reported so far. A friend in Morgantown, WV, emailed me and said it bad enough to scare folks and crack a few walls there.
