one of my highschool buddies (who's parents did EVERYTHING for him) decided it was finally time to check his own oil. Sure enough...the engine showed it was low as pulling the dipstick did not show anything.

Well, instead of removing the valve cover cap and adding it there, he got a funnel and added a quart to the dipstick tube... But, wait? Its still not showing anything .... so let's add another quart..

Wow!!!! nothing yet? "I can't believe the car still runs 3 quarts low? So after the 3rd quart, it finally shows on the dipstick.

So he fires up the car and heads to work.....

On the way, the auto transmission starts to slip


yep, you guessed it. He added 3 quarts of 10w30 to the TRANSMISSION....

when I worked at a toyota dealer in the seventies , a new Celica came in on a tow truck , the owner had checked the oil by removing the oil filler cap , No oil so she filled it up till it was at the top , took two days to start it after draining all the oil out
