Wow!!! You guys are scared of taking studs out??????? :o
There's a few of the 6mm studs that are broken that will need to be replaced but
I don't know why you think taking the others out would open a can of worms!
If there's gonna be a problem with a stud or their mating threads, I'd sure
rather know about it at this point then some point in the future.

I don't think it's a matter of being scared. If the studs are not in bad shape, there's usually no reason to take them out. It's possible that if there is corrosion, removing a stud might mess up the threads in the case, requiring thread repair, or a very tight stud could break off flush, for example. I think that's what John meant by opening a can of worms. If you choose to take them all out, open away, you'll probably be fine.

Hey it's your bike, do what you want. Everyone has their own ideas on what needs to be done. You will probably never be happy unless you do them. :silent: :D

I have just seen junked cases, and read horror stories. And really don't see any need to remove perfectly good studs. Broken/stripped ones of course.

Do as you will of course, just a warning......

I've been SLOWLY creeping up on this project and have run across something I can't find in the books.
I purchased two new swing arm bushings, installed them, and then realized that they had bigger bores
in them than the ones I took out. (I still had them).
Out came the new ones, and for the time being, in go the old ones. The old ones were serviceable.
My 72 H2 has two tapered bolts on each end of the swing arm pivot shaft.
The shaft is split on the ends and when the bolts are installed, the shaft spreads to lock in the frame.
Anyone else have this setup? Is it correct?

Looks like I'd still have to have a 'thru' bolt for the needle bearing setup.
Needle bearings are fine but without seals they might not last very long....
I'm looking more for info on what I have.
