Just an update on the H1. Reset my timing yesterday using the following method.
I removed my tank and all 3 spark plugs. I then used my caliper measurement rod (as explained in the post) to first obtain TDC. I then set my caliper digital readout to zero and then moved the push rod out an additional 3.46mm from the zero mark. I carefully placed the measurement rod back in the plug hole and slowly turned the crank with a 13mm socket until the piston touched the caliper rod. I did this a couple times to ensure that I was right on the end and not high or low. I then bent/moved my pointer to align with the position of the marks (R, L, C). I only had to "adjust" the pointer about 1 mm, very small movement. I repeated this for each cylinder. I then moved the rotor end again to the "S" marks and checked the alignment of the trailing edge of the pointer mark on the rotor with the molded line on each pickup and adjusted accordingly. Again, to realign was a small adjustment, I would guess 1 mm off. I repeated for each pickup and then reset my air gap to .026 with a feeler gauge. I was not able to start the motor and verify with the light gun as I am awaiting a new petcock from mine leaking, even after the rebuild. So I just left my tank off for now.
I also checked the compression in all 3 cyls for a start point as posted. Each posted approx 145. So should be good here.
I believe everything should be ready to go when I get the new petcock, non-resistor OEM plug caps and Mikuni mains. Please inform me if I missed a step or mis-read a measurement in the timing process. Thanks again.
