My bike can hardly get out of it's own way. I just got the thing running and took it on it's first real ride last night and it has a hard time getting going from low end. It will only do about 60 mph tops and is very weak getting off the line. After I got to my friends house I suspected the cheap air filters I bought for it might be restricting it so I removed them and when I left for home I did notice it improved quite a bit compared to what it was.
It is still weak but is better, I never took the carbs apart and cleaned them, could this be the problem? Also it idles and revs perfectly and you would think by listening to the motor run it is tuned perfectly! no misses or anything like that. Ive never owned one of these bike but after looking around on the forum here it seems these bike are a little guttless out of the hole? any input would be great. Thanks!

I don't know what triple you're talking about, but if it runs better without air filters, it's too rich. Marking your twist-grip with tape to show 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 throttle will tell you what circuit(s) in your carbs are too rich. What's the history of these carbs? Did you install a "rebuild kit"?

I guess I should have asked "Could someone have previously installed a carb rebuilt kit?"

Ive never had the carbs apart the fella that sold it to me didn't know either. They look really good on the exterior. My wife was driving behind me and said the bike smoked alot when going up hill but very little smoke on flat land. Yes Jim it's a h1d you built my cdi's, also the pipes seem evenly hot across all three cylinders. I guess the good thing is after I rode it was that the engine doesn't seem to get very hot I can touch the heads for a quick sec and it doesn't seem it gets as hot as my other 2 stroke bikes do after a ride like this.

When you get them apart, look carefully at the jets with a magnifier, and see if they have the Mikuni logo on them. They need to have that.
