Ok, I understand.

The reason I experimented with the air screws is that the exhaust pipes have quite some spooge.

So I'm speculating it runs too rich or is over oiled.

I use pre-mix with 3% oil on this H1B.

Premix changes how to jet. It will cause a need to increase pilot size. It is possible that the jet is too small and out of tuning range... for sure you need to check that the pilots are clean.

Ok, I understand.

I was thinking the pilot jets were too big since the engine almost always starts first kick without having to use the starter system.

Is there some reason why you run premix?
Premix makes the fuel thicker and jets won't flow as much as pure fuel. The pump meters the oil with rpm changes. It is better to run the pump with no premix.
Some spooge is normal. The type oil used will alter the amount of spooge.
When adjusting air screw it is a delicate operation. It requires that the cylinder being adjusted is the primary source of rpm and small changes are not immediately apparent. See https://kawatriple.com/manuals/carbtune/carbtune.htm

It was discovered when the engine was rebuilt that the pump was from a H2 -74 so I was recommended it being removed. But I kinda regret it now because premix on the street is a bit of a drag.

An H2-74 pump is a four hole pump. Hard to believe it would have been fitted to an H1.
I highly recommend finding an H1 pump and installing it before trying to tune carbs.

Hopefully the threads in the oil injection holes in the crankcase was kept and the plugs made as screws.

In that case restoring the oil injection wouldn't be that hard.

It does crackle quite a bit when driving slow at low throttle openings in the lower gears.

My newly rebuilt H1A engine failed after a few meters on the first test run. Put pre-mix in the gas tank just to be sure and it smoked when idling. Was going for a ride and almost immediately it stalls with a noise on now it won't start again. When checking the oil lines the pump has not pumped oil properly, so it probably seized.

How could it seize if you had oil in the gasoline?
