That would be a good setup, with the neutral switch too. Until we all install the system, a starting procedure that's followed every time would be a good substitute. You just have to follow it the way pilots follow their preflight checklist. I don't like to start my H2 until the side stand is up anyway, so for example:

1. Straddle bike
2. Raise side stand
3. (for cold starts) Turn petcock to "prime" until fuel stops flowing, and then to "on"
4. Turn on ignition
5. Start engine and ride

If it surges, that's normal, upshift.

Ducati's solution, spring loaded sidestand, as soon as you takes the weight of the stand it flips up.
In addition there is a red warning light on the dashboard.

BMW has self retracting side stands, and many new BMW owners have parts bills for the damaged parts on the left side of the bike, when they simply pick the bike up off the side stand, and it falls right over when they don't remember to put that side stand down again.

With repays, the switch setups can be made to run the engine when the side stand is up, and the engine is in neutral, by using the same neutral light switch on the trans, and a diode to stop back flow into the other light circuit.

Just depends on ow fancy yo want to make the electrical system for the safety device.

My RZ500 has a side stand switch, and clutch lever switch, and neutral switch. IF you leave the side stand down, and snick it into gear, when you start to let the clutch out, the engine is stopped, dies, done.

The safety switch on my Concours' side stand kills all power if you put it in gear with the stand down.
Clutch in or out. Wont argue with anyone elses habgits, but Jim's pre-flight check has been a habit of mine since a good Buddy did the same thing as Dave did back in 72 on the way to the shop one morning.
Beautiful white H1 went into a violent flip and Tommy would have been speared by the handlebars only for his Bell Star helmet.
Also have worn a full face since that day as well.
Side stand up, key on. Its just something I always do.
