I started to set the ignition timing. Set the LH piston to 3.13mm BTC and this is where I am at, way off. What is going on here, is there no key in the trigger rotor? I did not assemble the ignition, but did remove the housings to polish them.

I don't see a problem. Adjust the pointer to the L mark and see what happens when you point a timing light at it with the engine running. The rotor protrusion is just about where it causes the signal generator to trigger the CDI at 4,000 rpm, which is the speed you set it at:

Hmm. The manual I downloaded said to set the trigger point, the protrusion that passes the trigger, to the trailing edge of the trigger mark, In the pic you see there is about 1/4" before that point, it will be firing after TDC in this case.

Are you 3 degrees before or after?

Reading your info about the throttle
Cable
The barrel is likely not seated on one
Cables where the union is . This is where
The individual cables meet .

Kawasaki does this really strangely. And yes the trigger rotor is pinned. The main thing is to get the 3.13 BTDC (rotated clockwise after finding top dead center) and align the L rib on the trigger rotor with the timing pointer by moving the pointer if necessary. That's all you really need, before checking with a timing light. (absolutely necessary) At 4000 rpm the rotor mark and timing pointer need to line up. if not then move the pick up. Repeat for the other 2 pick ups.

I think I understand then. The manual shows a way to phase the three pickups, and is not showing the actual ignition point, nor does it refer to 3.13mm BTC. All based off the pointer, which may or may not be accurate. I'll go through it and set the pickups as it says then wait to run it and set them at 4000 rpm with a light. Guess it's a two man job to do.

I have a new cable, and the outers seem to be fixed into the 1 into 4 body and won't move. I did try and see if they were out of seat, but I can't get them to move there. I remember the old original cables, the outers were loose there and could do that. It seems like it just has one short inner or long outer.

I always do it alone.

Interesting, he used the H2 timing setting of 3.13mm on an H1, with a different stroke.
