heres what I got out of it. 'i'm smarter than you and told you so'. kind of a 'dick' tone to the article IMHO. was he right? yeah. but still.

Life will treat you well if you always question advise but never ignore it.
Eventually you figure out for yourself who the bullshit artists are!

I really like reading Kevin Cameron's stories.

they should have followed the advice, sure, but what was the point of the story, really? some guys were stubborn and blew their stuff up 40+ yrs ago.

I've had the oil/lean conversation a few times myself. forget jetting discussions, hundreds (as I am sure we all have). def not one his best pieces, came off as very arrogant IMHO. Just didn't like the tone. I usually really like his articles though.

The point is, when someone who knows what they are doing, and offer to help, and then their advise is ignored, it pisses them off. And rightly so........

shouldn't piss anyone off, I mean really. Not like they paid the price of bad advice, the person who refused it did. It should only make the person mad if they were asked, advice wasn't followed, then the person who offered was blamed for the failure.

To quote Kevin, "People can be very strongly attached to their ideas, and neither clear physical evidence nor anything anyone can say will pry them loose." That's the moral I got from it: don't get so stuck on an idea that you start risking destruction of equipment or even death.

Some people care, some don't.

Good point jim. still think it was presented poorly to a degree, it read very arrogant. And if people aren't willing to learn, maybe they should sell their tools and go do something else, I agree. however, being pissed (and thinking its justified) is just silly and small.
