OK guys, understand why you are not responding to my foray into AHRMA racing because I am riding a Honda  but check this out......went up to Gainesville for the Bob Barker auction, for those of you who do not know him, he was a founder of AHRMA and was a key player in getting CanAm into racing. He died last August and his wife held an estate sale to auction off his entire estate, including all his bikes, shop equipment, and the building he spent his life in restoring bikes. I traveled up with Scott Turner my buddy who got me involved with racing and we had a great time. Highlights of the auction included a 1924 Indian Scout which sold for $34,000. There were two Norton Manx that went for north of $20K also.

I felt completely overwhelmed having $2K in my pocket until this 1966 HD Aermacchi Legerro 65 hit the block. I had to have it, it was in good shape, and my wife (the pit bitch lol) said go for it. I snagged it for $700 and felt like a king.

Been ordering a ton of NOS stuff to restore it and will keep this thread going with pics. Just struggling with time to work on it, just got back from the races at NOLA in New Orleans, rain, wind, sucked!

Heading up to in June to race Gingerman and Road America, will be also racing at Taledega and Barber, life is good. Take time to be grateful for what you have in this life, it's the only one you have. See you guys in May at the Gap meet......

In the World of motorcycling I'm not sure if H.D, Italian bikes, and 2-strokes can actually work, but go for it........ Great post! (Hate Harleys, Italian bikes, but LOVE 2-strokes!!!

The Italian two strokes are my most hated motorcycles to restore. No offense, but they were junk then and they are really junk now. I have found that the parts are the hardest to find of all and there were constant factory revisions making it even harder to find the right part. That being said, have fun! ;)

there is just a weak point with Dellorto, carbs parts wear out very fast peculiar needle and jet needle, so change them often and have replacement parts in stock

In all honesty, whenever I see a 2-stroke Harley on Craigslist, I do view it just because it's a smoker. Looking forward to your updates.

I owned two Aermacchi 125s back in the day. They stayed in need of repair all the time. Even knowing that, I still have a soft spot for them as they were my first smokers! I liked the 72 Rapido 125 better than the 73 TX 125 model. Was that bike you purchased known as the Leggero? Does it have the premix cup built in under the gas cap like my Rapido 125 did? Should be a fun resto. I've heard there is a guy local to me that has the bulk of parts for the Aermacchi bikes- think his name may be Jerry Barber? Have fun Jim!

I have a 1969 M65 which I have been rebuilding (step-through). I have only had it fire over once, and I'm not sure where the problem is. I haven't really given it a lot of attention. I guess you have found Charleston Custom Cycle as a parts source?

Lane, been getting most of my parts from Armchair Cycles.

Kinda fun working on a motor that weights about 25 lbs. Pit bitch is anxious for me to get this done as it will her paddock bike lol.

Started the teardown of the motor, was very clean considering the age. Both crank bearings and the mainshaft and driveshaft bearing will need replacing, have them on order. Will put in new oil seals all around. Piston and bore looked good. Will need all new (3) friction plates. Bronze bushings on one side for the counter and drive shafts but they seem to be in excellent shape. Good news was the coils and contact plate looked clean with no corrosion. I have new points which will be installed. Also will need new sprockets, they too are on order. Want to try and get this resto done before I head to the races at Gingerman and Road America in June. Will keep posting progress pics on this thread.
