I recall when diesel was half the price of regular.
As for the air fares, I just saw a piece on the news the other night where they mentioned a significant drop in air fares should be eminant due to fuel price drops lately.


I have my doubts.......

As soon as Uncle Obama finishes kissing Iran's butt(and doing something else to Israel's )and the oil they have floods the market we will see a lot cheaper gas and diesel, IMHO.

Unfortunately Steve, that isn't going to happen anytime soon, you will notice that gone are the days of trucks belching out clouds of black smoke as they burned off what is almost "heavy Oil" often attributed to being a by product of petrol, nowadays with the super clean burning low sulphur diesels the refining to get it nice and clean burning is a heck of a lot more expensive, hence the price.

Ironically, I was in a town in Wisconsin a couple of weeks back where there was literally .46c a gallon difference between 2 gas stations 50 Yards away from each other - that can be $100 a tank for a truck

I believe that airlines contract their fuel well in advance so while fares may eventually drop it will be a ways down the road.

That can sometimes be because the station with the high price has some contracts with companies and local government agencies (like the police force or whatever) and therefore only sell to the public at a very high price.

That's amazing in my area diesel is 2.95 a gallon at best thanks to NY road use tax my wife's Jetta TDI 46 MPG love that diesel even at 2.95 a gallon

Diesel is cheaper in type and refinement but distribution and marketing is higher?????

It's all about market and demand. Use the San Francisco Bay Area for example:
Refineries are local so distribution "should be less" but they pay a LOT more on average than we do.

I did a historical look at prices and to make it easy, the National Average Price Week of Mar-21-1994 was $1.106/Gallon. It peaked week Apr-09-2012 at 4.148.

I remember when I did my 6,500 "round America" trip for my 50th birthday in late July 2008, when I left prices were at an all time high, certainly consistently over $4 a gallon, and averaging $4.40 when I arrived in Ca I clearly remember paying $5.08 for a gallon of diesel, I was limping along trying to find a cheap station and almost on fumes . . . . in the end I bit the bullet, it was the first time ever that it had cost over $100 to fill my 22 gallon tank
