Through 74, some people complained about the oil delivery to the tranny backside, maybe to one of the gears, saying it was burning up a gear or bearing. :eh: I saw where some people were modding the block while they had them apart to help eleviate the issue. I'm sure there's someone more 'in the know' on these machines than I am, maybe they can comment. It's possible I could have it wrong, Its been a long time since I looked into the mechanicals.[/quote]

In his description,he mentions modding the engine to hold more oil.So your memory seems to be intact. :)

I've been into T500s over a decade now and in best times I had six (1x Cobra, 1x J and 4x K model) of them in my garage.
They are reliable in a way they seldom fail at once. But T500 has its weak points like transmission failures due to narrow gears and oiling issues (mostly 4th and 5th gear). Then, rebuilding a T500 engine is a challenge if you are after new parts. Stock rods and crank bearings (special shape) are almost NLA, and repro parts are pricy (e. g. connecting rod kit £225/ea, single gears £90 to £130).

With around 35 RWHP max (20 RWHP at cruising speed of 60 mph), the T500 has enough power for long distance riding even two up. The negative, they vibrate a lot (vibration is pretty severe over 4500 rpm) and achieve poor gas mileage of around 35 mpg.

With modern brake shoe materials, poor braking is not an issue anymore.

One of my 73" T500: http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/b ... b-jpg.html

Nice looking. I am not a suzi fan but there are some nice details on that bike.

There is a write-up on the T500s in the most recent Motorycycle Classics mag.
