I am always shocked by the performance of these bikes! It amazing!!
It also makes me wonder if welding all those Gs cranks was needed.
I do know it was never about the drag on the HP of the bike from the charging system it was the weight if the rotor and the starter clutch that would crack the left side of the Gs cranks, at least the early ones.
Do they weld the KZ cranks??
How many runs do the triple cranks do before needing rebuild??
Just thinking out loud  Anyway those are some freaky amazing numbers super eliminator bikes do

We have cranks rebuilt at 250 passes. Some guys like to push the envelope and they usually get into the 500 pass range before something lets go. H2s were prone to snapping off the ignition side of the crank and that is why most run outboard bearing supports. But changing to the Zeeltronics reluctor that Ralf Schipmann designed drops almost 4lbs from the end of the crank.

For drag racing, could one use a battery to support the iggy power and build a tiny little trigger for the pickups on the crank end?

Yes, certainly.

CDI Ignitions can get by with a tiny battery, the Derrick brothers were running one that was about the size of five credit cards stacked on top of each other, looked like it was out of cell phone. We run the four cell Ballistic, works great, weighs about a pound and goes all weekend on one charge. And the Schipmann Zeeltronics unit has a reluctor that weighs about as much as two quarters.
