What the article does NOT mention is that the great Gary Nixon was the first to race Erv's Kawasaki dirt tracker at the San Jose Mile National in 1974. Gary failed to reach the final due to teething troubles with the Triple, though both he and Erv felt that the project was definitely worth pursuing. Unfortunately Gary crashed shortly afterwards while testing a Suzuki XR14 in Japan, suffering serious injuries that prevented him from any further riding in 1974. It's therefore very unlikely that he rode the Triple again.
