Thanks for the post and the photos, Robby. It looks like a blast on the track.

51 rear wheel hp at 8300 rpm is a good result considering your engine's relatively mild state of tuning, Robby. "Motor" got 41.5 crankshaft hp at 7300 rpm from their test S2 in 1971, which of course was in 100% standard condition.
A further, but far more interesting, comparison is the TZ350 "Cycle" tested in their May 1973 issue. The maximum recorded for the TZ was 62.8 hp at 9440 rpm, but this was not peak hp as the test had to be discontinued because the engine started to overheat. The TZ was in a far higher state of tune, with 34 mm carburettors (and has the advantage of water-cooling). Total full-throttle area for two 34 Mikunis is 18.15 cm2, for the three 24 mm Mikunis fitted to the S2 the area is 13.57 cm2. Fitting 26 mm S3 carburettors would give 15.93 cm2 and probably more peak hp, but perhaps at the expense of a narrower powerband. It is, however, a simple and probably also a relatively inexpensive upgrade, especially if you already have a set of S3 carburettors and intake manifolds plus gaskets and heat insulators.

Hi Gerrit,

I had no S3 Carburators, but S2 Carburators were laying in my cellar, so I put the S2 Carburators on the S2-R. The engine runs very smooth and I think, the 51 hp is power enough for the old aircooled engine. More power is more risk for the engine to get demaged. I ride only trainings just for fun, no timed races.
