Lets not forget that we are talking about modifying triple pistons here tuner...
From what I can see, there is allot more meat in an OW31 piston skirt and also in the web near the transfer cutout. Apples and oranges.
I make posts to invite debate on the subject... Forgive me for not genuflecting...

orry to read about that catastrophic damage John.
Hard to say I guess wether it was caused by weakened pistonskirt.
The lower end of the pistonskirt does take some mechanical load.
How important skirt ridgidity is? Check out two stroke pistons found in modern 250 cc cylinder. They feature ribs for max support of the skirt.

And this while the applicable engines have rods 5 mm longer than H2, which means skirt load is actualy less than H2.
Can only suggest to start measuring something. Like compare skirt deformation under load between stock, non stock and a holed or slotted skirt.
Good thing: H1 pistons skirts are stressed way lower than H2.

As for rate of expansion for pistons:
Have measured it stock Kaw, Wiseco, Asso and Prox pistons.
They are all the same.

sorry to see your bike was damaged,no bull.
but you should have gone the way of the bike that wont work and you would have had more support for the piston

It was my screw up, there is no problem, as long as the holes aren't excessively big.

Henry, your bike won't run with no hole on inlet.
Thought you were smart enough to figure that one out.

That's a nice looking forged piston.

My TZ750 pistons are certainly cast with a slightly thicker (raised) portion around the cutaway but they are much the same as any TZ or TD/TR piston. The cutaway almost reaches the centerline of the wrist pin and the skirt length below the pin is much less than above the pin.

H2 and GT750 Soozook have longer skirts - modesty perhaps. On my GT reed motor I was planning on using a TZ/OW design cutaway to open up the flow. Less restriction = more flow.

The modesty has to come from the rider or the bike, and it's never the rider.....

And I was thinking the same thing in getting some custom 250 pistons made......
