Back in the day, when no mufflers were used in AMA racing, and triples, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph and BSA ran, along with the Honda 4's, the bikes at Ontario Motor Speedway would command attention. The two strokes, nice, high tones, Honda, OK, but, upon reaching the front straight, EVERY mechanic would hear them coming, stand to attention, salute, and become "aroused" as they screamed past. We just never forgot the fantastic sound those things made at full song, when they were jetted right. |

I still have a racing slick from my daze at Kawi' s d.c. In the MPLS. Area. It was allegedly burned off by Yvonne. There are some small holes drilled in the surface, I suspect to see how much rubber was left. My only run in with Mssr. DuHammel was to have beaten him in the semi- finals at Eagle River, WI.....at snowmobile racing, just before my engine seized:o |

A very few came on 1000cc production class but no one could reach the lead from far. Against H2, there were only Ducati 900ss, Laverda 1000 which could won. And a factory Guzzi 850 Le Mans we saw one time, very fast but non standart exhausts and would be curious to know the bore

Production racing was very big in Australia in the early '70's, and different from most Countries, in that Proddy. Racing meant Showroom Stock, and there was stringent scrutineering, including tear-downs and sealed/tagged engines etc. Cheating simply was not tolerated. Which was good for me, it enabled me to buy a new H2 in '72, and thrash it unmercifully for years on the street and track. Of course you would also enter it in all kinds of open class scratch races, and be surprisingly competitive against all comers....(and get destroyed by the fast guys!!) So that first H2 never broke down, and never gave any trouble, and in those days we didn't know anything about gear-box shimming, oil pumps, etc. etc. We just got on and rode them as hard as we could. That is what the H2 did for me, and why I am such a dedicated Triples guy! |
