Cody: the reason why the ping went with a fresh load of fule is because the fuel itself was so much colder.
Have noticed that always on long rides on motorways on hot summerdays. Right after a refill, the detonation was gone for about 40 miles, after which it came back. Thats because the fuel had heated upto ambient temp.
This is why fueltanks on racecars are often protected against sunlight while pitted.

Leo... I NEVER even thought about fresh gas being cooler!

makes absolute sense.....

So what you are saying is. In order to detonate less, I have to try to burn through a tank of gas as quickly as possible so as not to let the ambient temperature effect it?

I'll see what I can do!

After 5 years of road racing both H1s and H2s I have found the most consistent fuel to be Sunoco 110 octane leaded. I've tried several of the VP fuels as well as several other brands but none were as consistent as Sunoco. It is also considerably cheaper than VP at most tracks and still available at several gas stations around Atlanta.

It also makes sense to me as this was the fuel that was available when triples were new. When I was 16 I used to buy it for around 30 cents a gallon. :D
